Thank you for visiting our introduction page for Islam Style Quilt. I’m Nakamura, a Japanese geometric quilt designer. My Islam Style Quilt Making Kit will be available in partnership with Seiren Trading Co. from October 2020, and I’ve refurbished the page so That you can go to the sales page. The design pictured above was featured in the October 2019 issue of Quilt Japan magazine. Quilt making kits are not widely used in Japan, but as I mentioned in the magazine, they are easy to make large, complex quilts, and have the unique feature of being able to ensure originality by coloring the bias tape to your liking. I hope you will find it useful and that it will not detract from a busy quilter’s enthusiasm for making quilts.

Features of the design
Design features
(1) Stars, shields, and swords that are characteristic of Islamic patterns appear.
(2) A characteristic bordering appears in the Islamic pattern. In Islamic patterns, the bordering represents a circulation that symbolizes the eternity of God.
(3) Original creation method: This is an original creation method called the polygon overlapping method, which is not the traditional Islamic pattern creation method.
Features of the quilt design
- (1) You can create a quilt with a bordering: Among the quilts, there are two types of quilts with a border: the stained glass quilt (left figure) and the Celtic quilt (right figure) shown below. In stained glass quilts, the bordering is often used with thin black bias tape to clarify the division of parts. The Celtic quilt, as shown here, represents the Celtic pattern with a border, and is the subject and characteristic of itself. In Islam Style quilts, the parts are also separated by bordering, but the original color can change the overall atmosphere, so it can be considered an important subject, so it can be thought of as having the characteristic of both stained glass quilts and Celtic quilts.

(2) Easy to make large and complicated quilt: You can easily make large and complicated quilt by appliqué of bias tape. I believe that this will be an opportunity to challenge the quilters of the busy generation. What’s more, you can create your own original work by using the bias tape in your favorite color.
Features of Making quilt
You can easily create quilts with complex geometric designs by appliquéd bias tape without patchwork. You can make big quilts even when you are busy. The general steps for creating this quilt can be found at followings.
Islam Style quilt design
Size, etc .: The design part of the quilt top is 1m square, and there is a white background margin of about 10cm on the top, bottom, left and right. The width of the bordering is assumed to be 7 mm bias tape. The fabric is medium cotton made of Seiren PR sheet.

Description: Design made from large regular octagonal overlaps. The octagon, hexagonal star, shield and sword that are characteristic of Islamic patterns appear, and they are beautiful as a continuous repeating pattern. With a modest overall tone, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Design No.2
Description:
A design made of overlapping pieces that collect three small pentagons and arrange them in a hexagonal lattice. In addition to the hexagonal star shape, the shield and the sword, which are characteristic of Islamic patterns, three-rhombus marks and four-rhombus marks appear in series.
With the bright and lively overall tone, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Design No.3
Description: A design made up of three overlapping medium size pentagons arranged in a hexagonal lattice. In addition to the hexagonal star shape, the shield and the sword that are characteristic of Islamic patterns, 3-rhombus marks are connected to enclose the hexagonal star shape. Although the overall color tone was solid, the rhythm was born by painting the square shield with two types of brown, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Design No.4
Description: Design made from large regular dodecagonal overlaps. In addition to the hexagonal star shape and shield that are characteristic of Islamic patterns, a series of small rhombus appears, which is beautiful as a continuous repeating pattern. The whole is made a modest color, and a series of small rhombus is colored with the image of a necklace, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Comments: A design made from two overlapping eight regular octagons. The regular octagon, octagonal star, shield and sword that are characteristic of Islamic patterns appear, and they are beautiful as a continuous repeating pattern. The whole has a calm tone, and two types of eight octagonal overlaps are painted separately for a masculine and feminine image, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Comments: A design made from overlapping overlapping 12 small squares arranged at the vertices of an equilateral triangle. In addition to the regular dodecagon, the shield and the sword, which are characteristic of Islamic patterns, a triangular star and a large hexagonal star appear in series. With the bright and lively overall tone, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Design No.8: Introduced in the October 2019 issue of Quilt Japan magazine
Comment: A design made of large regular octagons and squares overlaping. A regular octagon, an octagonal star, a shield and a sword which are characteristic of Islamic patterns appear. Design was colored with the image that he oasis in the center of the desert is protected by the grace of God. Although the quilt introduced in the Quilt Japan magazine, October 2019 issue is made from this material, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.

Comment: Design from regular heptagonal overlapings that are rarely used in Islamic patterns. The shield and a sword which are characteristic of Islamic patterns appear. Design was colored with the image that he oasis in the center of the desert is protected by the grace of God. Although the quilt will introduc in the UK quilt magazine September 2020 issue or later (uncertain due to British lockdown) is made from this material, you can expect a great quilt to be completed by selecting your original bordering color.
